You And I

Don’t you worry, there my honey
But we’ve got our love to pay the bills
Maybe i think you’re cute and funny,
Maybe i wanna do what bunnies do with you,
If you know what i mean
Oh, let’s get rich and buy our parents homes in the south of france
Let’s get rich and give everybody nice sweaters
And teach them how to dance
Let’s get rich and build our house on a mountain
Making everybody look like ants
From way up there, you and i, you and i, you and i,
Well you might be a bit confused
And I might be a little bit bruised
But baby how we spoon like no one else
So i will help you read those books
If you will soothe my worried looks
And we will put the lonesome on the shelf

I feel in love with it when I saw Erika perform a cover of it.

Street Style: Ladies At Lunch

Ladies. Not just women. Ladies.
Can I be a lady who lunches and still work? I think I would be bored without a job.
Hell, sometimes I'm bored WITH my job.
'Natch.

I Shall Be Released

"And when the time comes for the affair to end, you are sad but grateful, because having had someone who understood you perfectly in that moment helps you make the transition, allows you to walk into the uncertain night and toward that unknown place with a clearer sense of who you are and where you’ve been, your heart filled with all that’s gone and with everything that you will never, ever stop loving."
God, I love reading The New York Times.

For my sweet friend D.

Feather Leather Headband

Mostly I wear headbands (throwback!) when I work out. They keep those wispy bangs out of my eyes. Also, when my hair is misbehaving, and I don't have the time, patience or skill to fix it.
This headband, however, might just be worn for the fun of it. What a concept.
'Twould look good with my not quite black hair, no?

I Can See Clearly Now

Yeah, I wear glasses. I wear glasses more often than I wear contacts. However, when I do decide to put on a pretty face I almost always stash a pair of lunettes in my purse in case of an irritated eye or an impromptu sleepover party. What can I say. I like to be prepared. Well, I would much rather pull this glasses case out of my purse than the brazen Gucci one that came with my frames.
Beautiful, simple and eye catching.
Room 907 is good stuff. I'm not just saying that because I know William J.
That's a man with a good sense of style.
Just Saying.

Sustainable cup cozy... Vespa Styles

This cute vespa cup holder has a little lady printed on it which looks JUST like my vespa. I think I need it. Obviously. What a great way to remember my sweet ride when the winter months make scooting a distant memory?

My City, At Night

My city is beautiful.
I love flying home at night, and seeing the lights of the city welcome me home as we come in to land.

Wall Decals

As someone living in an apartment (even a good apartment with the best roomies), I find it hard to commit to pricey home projects. It just seems silly when we don't know how long we are going to stay for. But I've been eyeing various decals as a way to spiffy up my beige room. Come on... it's STICKERS for grownups! And at about $50 a pop, it fits right into my budget.

January 2nd 2010

A daily reminder. Found in Brooklyn.
January 2010

Call me kooky, but I believe that what I am doing at midnight is a predictor for how my entire year will go. This is not a theory. It has been proved true time and time again. Like I said. I know it's kooky.

My New Years Eve was full, but perhaps not exactly what I want for the coming year. At least I don't think so. (My fault. I had a little too much wine and don't quite recall the evening).

Instead, if I were to have my way, my entire year would be like January 2nd 2010. (After I had recovered my spunk.)

It ran something like this:
  • Being in a foreign but not unfamiliar city
  • Cafe au lait and almond croissants with my oldest bestie
  • Some shopping. Shoes and sexy unmentionables are my undoing in the shopping department. Check and check.
  • Lunch and wandering around Soho.
  • Home for a glass of wine, and some chill-axing time.
  • Headed to Brooklyn for a indie show at a great venue Union Hall.
  • Amazing meal at a Rose Water, a great restaurant which specializes is local, organic and sustainable food. I shared a bottle of bubbly and a great meal with a dear friend who I could talk to for hours. And did.

So if 2010 could be full of best friends, amazing meals, wine and champagne, travel and concerts and talk and laughter then I will be a happy girl. I now have 11.5 months to see how the next year will turn out!

Cookies...For Grown Ups

So my little brother got me a cookbook for Christmas. One that I had asked for on excellent recommendation from a bestie. I was instantly engrossed in all the delicious pictures. And he casually threw in that should I make 175 batches of cookies, I should feel free to stop by my mom's and drop a few off. Smart Move kid. Below is my first batch (and cover recipe) from the book.

Makes 2 dozen
  • 7 ounces best-quality semisweet chocolate
  • 1 1/2 cups plus 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1/2 cup dark-brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup unsulfured molasses
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  1. Line two baking sheets with parchment. Chop chocolate into 1/4-inch chunks; set aside. In a medium bowl, sift together flour, ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and cocoa.
  2. In the bowl of an electric mixer, fitted with the paddle attachment, beat butter and grated ginger until whitened, about 4 minutes. Add brown sugar; beat until combined. Add molasses; beat until combined.
  3. In a small bowl, dissolve baking soda in 1 1/2 teaspoons boiling water. Beat half of flour mixture into butter mixture. Beat in baking-soda mixture, then remaining half of flour mixture. Mix in chocolate; turn out onto a piece of plastic wrap. Pat dough out to about 1 inch thick; seal with wrap; refrigerate until firm, 2 hours or more.
  4. Heat oven to 325 degrees. Roll dough into 1 1/2- inch balls; place 2 inches apart on baking sheets. Refrigerate 20 minutes. Roll in granulated sugar. Bake until the surfaces crack slightly, 10 to 12 minutes. Let cool 5 minutes; transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes: Do not skip the various cooling steps!

Paris

I was in Paris when Yves Saint Laurent died. Have you ever seen a city in mourning? I have.
I've been dreaming of Paris, and am planning my next trip.

Martin and Osa Does The Trench

Not quite warm enough right now, but I do love me a great trench.
One day, oh maybe one day I will own every trench lovers dream... a Burberry Trench.

Bicycle Race

Don't get me wrong, I love the snow. Mostly because I love snow related activities like tobogganing, skiing, and watching the snow globe world while sitting beside fires. But do you know what else I love? High heels and skirts. Not so appropriate for the cold slush.

So while I celebrate winter, I also look forward to spring. And perhaps getting my hands on a beautiful bike to get me around town.

Get Lost

I had a chance to go on a roadtrip to New York City. So it took it.
When it comes down to it you don't reget going places. You regret not going places.
(I hope I don't regret it at least.)
Road Trip!
